How does a window define a space? What is a window other than a frame and a panel of glass inserted in a wall? I was left to consider these questions when working on this project. Jada and I, who were partners on this project, were assigned to have the painting studio window as our new canvas. In order to determine what imagery would best fit in the space, we considered what we typically feel and see when in the studio. The painting studio tends to have a "fish bowl" effect. Its floor to ceiling windows that surround the place offer ample opportunity for many passersby to observe artists in their natural habitat. From this observation, we sought to depict the numerous stares and feelings accompanied with it with the image of a person with binoculars looking in and a phone propped on a tripod placed next to them. Having these images placed on the window, looking/pointing towards the artists, we hoped to facilitate a discussion on privacy and the state of feeling like you are alone in a space: Are we truly alone? Is privacy real?
